CHEE and Tsuruda Team Up for New Single, “Trailblazer”
Producers CHEE and Tsuruda have set themselves apart in the bass music scene as sonic innovators and expert tastemakers. Their latest collaboration falls in line with the type of sound production we’ve come to expect from them. The two have teamed up for an explosive new single called “Trailblazer.” Wrought with ominous bass swells and punchy vocal accents, “Trailblazer” is the perfect track to kick off the spooky season.
Listening to “Trailblazer,” it’s clear how well that CHEE and Tsuruda work together. The track is an excellent fusion of both producers’ styles.
“Myself [and Tsuruda] have always had similar taste in both bass music and hip hop,” said CHEE about the collaboration. “This collaboration was the perfect blend of both palettes on a sonic level and groove.”
Tsuruda added, “I’ve been having a really hard time finding words for this collaboration with CHEE. What is it like to work with the guy? I’ll be honest. I’ve worked with a lot of producers over the years. I’ve seen many workflows. I’ve witnessed many sessions. No one does it like CHEE. The guy is a sound design savant and can whip up beats faster than anyone I’ve ever seen. Truly honored to be his friend. But to be honest, he’s more like a brother to me. Can’t wait to see him rule the (music) world one day.”
Like the opening scene of a slasher film, “Trailblazer” starts off slow and ominous. The gloomy vibes lure the listener into a deceptive sense of calm. Just when you think it’s safe to get in the water, that first drop hits you like a great white shark on steroids. And it doesn’t stop hitting until the very end. Even after the track has ended, that explosive energy carries over into the silence. After a quick pause to catch your breath, you’re ready to hear it again. And again. And again.
“Trailblazer” premiered today, October 1, via Deadbeats. Catch Tsuruda and CHEE on their Trailblazer tour this Fall.
