6 Undercard Acts You Don’t Want to Miss at Hula 2021

Located in Florida’s panhandle, Suwanee Hulaween offers an annual lineup that is amongst the richest in the festival scene. Jam, funk, house, and bass, paired with everything in between, can be expected when you wander into the woods of Suwannee Halloween.

For 2021, Hulaween is dishing out possibly its most stacked lineup yet, headlined by Skrillex, My Morning Jacket, Leon Bridges, Khruangbin, and Zeds Dead. However, its this year’s undercard lineup that has MP3 hyped to return to the woods yet again.

We’ve broken down the undercard, and made a short list of the acts we’re most excited to see this year. Find our list below, and let us know who you’re most excited to see.

LSDREAM

Longtime EDM veteran LSDREAM has established himself as one of the festival scene’s darling acts since emerging a few years ago. Formerly known as Brillz, Sam Damient made a career pivot in 2018 to become LSDREAM. Working with left-field bass general Liquid Stranger, LSDREAM’s brand has a found a perfect home in WAKAAN and SSKWAN.

Throughout the pandemic, the producer heavily leaned on livestreams to push his penchant for health and wellness, even dropping a meditative side project, LIGHTCODE. His continuous emphasis through music and voclaized intent for listeners to find their own flow and light has helped him build a loyal following, and achieve headliner status amongst the bass community.

LSDREAM will be helping Zeds Dead kick off Thursday night at the Deadbeats Takeover, which will take place at the newly christened The Hallows stage. You won’t want to miss it.

LP Giobbi

Recent MP3 cover artist LP Giobbi is any easy pick for our top undercard acts, as she looks to provide one of the most colorful takes on house music at this year’s Hulaween.

Utilizing the lost art of ‘piano house,’ the producer weaves intricate melodies, powerful vocals, and vibrant live keys to create high energy moments during her sets. Arriving in 2018, LP Giobbi has been a force in the dance community across the globe. She’s founder and head of Femme House, a global organization dedicated to educating and uplifting women artists everywhere.

When asked about her inspiration to start the initiative, LP told MP3 MAG, “I had really awesome mentors in the music industry, who were men, that were so supportive and taught me so much. The biggest barrier to me was the [lack of] visual representation. It didn’t even occur to me because I didn’t see myself in that role. I had never worked with a female producer or engineer. When I took my first Ableton class, it was basically me and 250 other guys. That pumped me up, but that’s not the case for everyone else. I wanted to create a safe space where we could foster a community and pass our tracks around and get better together.”

LP will be taking over the famed Spirit Lake stage on Saturday night.

Mersiv

Freeform bass music juggernaut Mersiv has only grown in legend since a five set performance at Electric Forest in 2018. To date, he’s amassed 2 million+ streams on his hit “Beautiful & Filthy,” plotted his own national tours, and played main stages at events like Okeechobee, Ubbi Dubbi and Bonnaroo.

This week, the producer is set to drop his debut LP, Pretty Dark Loud, a 20-track masterpiece that fully flushes out his immersive sound design. Released on his MorFlo records imprint, Mersiv hopes to champion the Freeform bass genre as one of the leading innovative sub genres in modern electronic music.

He’ll be making his Hulaween debut this year by helping close out the Spirit Lake stage, the events most immersive and art centric area. With the performance coming only a week after the album drop, this set is simply can’t miss. Expect to hear much of the new music played out for the first time at a festival stage.

Daily Bread

Daily Bread has become a grassroots champion of funky bass music and good times. Akin to acts like Manic Focus, DB has provided a fun, refreshing take for fans of more chill and experimental approaches to bass.

Rhett Whatley started producing beats from his bedroom in 2014, armed with a drum machine, sampler, record collection, and ability to rock out on the jazz guitar. His beat sensibilities and ability to craft electro-soul and hip hop tracks have made him one of the more unique acts in modern electronic music.

Nala

Featured in our May magazine issue, Nala has quickly risen as one of the hottest names in house music today. Working closely with the Dirtybird label, she’s helped champion higher slots and recognition for women house artists in 2021.

Her smash hit, “Psychic Attack,” has garnered over 340k+ streams since its release, and has been followed up by a collab EP with none-other-than Claude VonStroke himself. “Everything is Burning” is nearing 200k streams, and was easily one of the top tracks played out at this year’s Dirtybird Campout in Modesto, California.

Look for her to continue to rise amongst the house music hierarchy, and make sure not to sleep on her set at Spirit Lake before LP Giobbi.

Lamorn

It’s hard not to make the list when you’ve been dubbed Deadmau5’s protege, so rising artist Lamorn was a shoe-in for our Can’t Miss rundown. According to Deadmau5, he has not been so excited about an artist “since discovering Skrillex.”

[Deadmau5] imparted a lot of valuable wisdom in one of the first conversations we had,” Lamorn recalled to MP3. “One of the main things he said that really stuck in my head was, ‘Do what’s important to do and what feels right to you, and not what would everyone else like.’

Expect a live instrument take on neo-house and techno when this talented artist makes his Hulaween debut.
