WHAT SO NOT & BUUNSHIN UNVEIL THE QUIET THAT HURTS EP

Following the release of their recent singles “Threads” (10/3) and “Dancing in the Leaves” (11/5), What So Not and Buunshin are set to unveil their highly anticipated collaborative EP, The Quiet That Hurts, arriving December 3, 2025. The project as a swift follow up to What So Not’s acclaimed 2024 release Motions – an introspective and richly layered EP that showcased his mastery of emotional storytelling and continued evolution within the modern electronic landscape.

The Quiet That Hurts takes listeners on a drum and bass-fueled journey through melody, emotion, and experimentation – a balance of high energy and introspective depth. The five-track EP features an impressive roster of vocal talent, including Maiah Manser on “Threads”, Alina Pash on “Tragic”, Lucy Lucy on “Dancing in the Leaves”, Aiko on “The One”, and Mara Necia on the closing track “Falling In”.

Each track unfolds as part of a larger emotional arc – exploring existential self reflection – and showcases both producers’ ability to weave immersive, cinematic soundscapes. By blending What So Not and Buunshin’s innovative writing & production styles with the ethereal vocals of their collaborators, The Quiet That Hurts emerges as a cohesive and evocative exploration of vulnerability, movement, and connection.

“Partway through the creative process, I flew to China & stayed in a temple with Shaolin Monks, training Kung Fu. It was an intense physical & mental experience & upon my return to regular life, I found myself asking “Where do ‘ideas’ come from? How do you create something that has never been done before? What is the source of all creation?”

I came up with this concept of the ‘Void’, the negative space you must enter to draw down ideas from the universe in their purist form. A type of meditation or ‘flow state’, absent of the noise of the world.

‘Threads’ quite literally become the theme of this concept. The mania of our internal dialog, holding us back from manifesting our greatest dreams & ideas. The tempo rising arpeggiation, a pressure point of energy as we attempt to break though the ego barrier & the magnificent payoff on the other side.

Speaking with Ferry on this topic became the foundation of the EP & the meaning behind ‘The Quiet That Hurts’. Filling our lives with unnecessary noise, placing our attention & energy into things that don’t serve us, all in an attempt to run away from that confronting silence… but the truth is that is where the answers lay”
