ODESZA has kept fans on the edge of their seats all 2022 with teasers of their first album in five years, The Last Goodbye. On July 22, the iconic electronic duo finally delivered and it was well worth the wait. 

ODESZA won hearts across the globe with tracks such as “Say My Name” and “the Grammy-nominated “Line of Sight” that highlight the group’s whimsical, melodic electro-pop and revelating vocals.

The Last Goodbye is a joyous coalition of pop-like melodies complemented by intimate and emotional themes — with many of the samples containing real memories and old recordings from ODESZA members Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight. 

The first track of the album, “The Version Of You,” tugs at the heartstrings and sends us into existential breakthroughs from the get-go. Featuring vocals from Louisiana musician Julianna Barwick, ODESZA warmly welcomes listeners on a journey into the album and into self-discovery and acceptance of the present version of themselves.

From there, each track brings its own bit of magic. “The Last Goodbye” samples iconic soul singer and songwriter Bettye LaVette’s 1965 hit, “Let Me Down Easy,” and is a tragic yet upbeat masterpiece that allows fans to release the heart-wrenching pain of rejection through dance. 

The Last Goodbye wraps up with the final track, “Light of Day,” featuring Icelandic multi-instrumentalist and producer Olafur Arnalds. Bidding listeners farewell with their final personal recording, ODESZA leaves us moved, inspired, and, dare one say, hopeful for a better tomorrow. “Light of Day,” and this whole album is a reminder that despite the darkness in this world, there is still light in it, and it’s always worth fighting for.

The Seattle-based duo is on the verge of their U.S. tour that starts with three back-to-back shows at the Climate Pledge Arena from July 29th through July 31st.
