TroyBoi at Red Rocks

MP3 TAKES — TroyBoi and ARIUS ROCK the Red Rocks Stage With Special Laser Performance

It’s always inspiring to watch an artist take full advantage of their debut Red Rocks headline performance. A few key artists come to mind in recent years that have lived up to the potential of that milestone in their career — Mersiv with his “Journey to Mars” debut, and Of The Trees with his incredible castle-inspired stage design are great examples.

Last weekend, TroyBoi joined that list thanks to a nonstop setlist of trap-fueled bangers, immaculate crowd energy, and most importantly, a surprise appearance from the spectacular laser show produced by ARIUS. The lineup, featuring Blossom, EVAN GIIA, and Hamdi collectively brought the house down for one of 2024’s best Red Rocks performances to date.

Ha-Ha-HAMDI

Hamdi’s one of the most prominent bass-forward producers in the world right now — there’s no denying that. But he’s also an incredible DJ, flowing in and out of UK dubstep sounds and tempos, UK garage tracks, and collabs with several heavy hitters including Skrillex (“Push”), Sammy Virji (“Never Let You Go Edit”), and Marshmello (unreleased ID).

The energy was amped up to 100 the entire time Hamdi was on stage, and the crowd loved it. He takes a pleasantly simple approach to his music and his sets, which gives plenty of room for easy dancing and careless fun — exactly what the crowd was looking for.

The first half of TroyBoi’s set was a fun-filled, trap-oriented dance party. To kick things off, he breezed through his newest tracks, “Keep It Moving” and “No Breaks,” and original catalog of trap-pop crossovers “Afterhours” before moving into some viral party bangers like Levity’s “Front To Back” and LYNY’s “Noxious.” Then, halfway through the set, he made an announcement:

“I’ve got something really special for you. All I ask is NO FLASH”

After a quick countdown played through on the LED screen, the real show began — ARIUS entered the stage and gave one of the coolest performances I’ve ever seen at Red Rocks.

The laser show consisted of both ARIUS performers, dressed in their signature all-white costumes and rice hats, trading laser tricks and performances, expertly choreographed down to the millisecond. Lasers flew from one performer to the other and illuminated ever-changing platforms on stage.

As they made their way through TroyBoi’s carefully curated setlist, they awed the audience with their interactive approach, utilizing the lasers as the third member of the group. For about 12 minutes, ARIUS demonstrated the coolest performance I’ve seen at Red Rocks all year long. Put simply, ARIUS and TroyBoi is a match made in heaven.

Red Rocks is often considered the pinnacle stage of EDM, and for good reason. But it’s rare an artist goes above and beyond to give fans a truly remarkable, innovative performance. Thankfully, TroyBoi (and ARIUS) delivered exactly that.
