WAV Artist of the Month — Zingara

“I’ve explored the realms of time and space, I’ve learned that the beauty in each moment here is special unlike any space. I am the magic that lies within, spreading deep inside my heart. Feel my mind, body and soul dance as one and never apart.” — Zingara

Imagine a world where everyone could tap into their subconscious mind and see their dreams as not only visions you have while asleep, but as profound lessons that guide you through the chaos of modern life. This message, embodied in a poem, has resonated with her since childhood.

MP3 MAG had the opportunity to sit down with Zingara as MP3 MAG’s WAV Artist of the Month to discuss her journey through the dream and spirit world, her latest album, The Code of Dreamz, and her monumental headline show at Mission Ballroom.

Zingara’s love for performing began long before she embarked on her career as a DJ and producer.

Growing up as a dancer, she thrived in the spotlight and craved the exhilaration of moving across the stage. However, a debilitating knee injury forced her to give up dancing, leading her to search for a new creative outlet.

Zingara’s pursued her education at Towson University, where she majored in film. Her passion for storytelling and self-expression through video was evident since childhood, as she was always recording herself, whether it was for YouTube, Vine, or Instagram. After practicing her videography skills by filming DJs at her local club, she decided to take a fellow friend’s advice and give DJing a try herself, and she quickly excelled.

Merging her passion for DJing with her social media talents, she began posting TikTok videos that rapidly gained traction.

Her blend of visual storytelling partnered with her love for performing set the stage for her transition into music, a medium that allowed her to combine her artistic talents and captivate audiences in a whole new way.

Before long, she was signed, touring, and producing music full-time under the alias, “Zingara.” In 2024, her career is bigger and better than ever before, especially after the release of her debut album, The Code of Dreamz.

This twelve song album paints a picture of Zingara discovering the dream world as a child. From a young age, she experienced recurring and intensely vivid dreams that often predicted future events, such as the passing of a family member or significant world events.

As these dreams became a regular part of her life, Zingara began documenting them and writing down every detail that she remembered when she woke up. She soon realized her dreams were communicating in a unique code and were delivering messages from her subconscious. This revelation allowed her to use her dreams as a tool for personal growth and navigating everyday life.

When Zingara decided to create this album, she brainstormed ways to convey her experiences through music, and the night after she had these thoughts, she had a dream telling her to title the album, The Code of Dreamz and share her journey with the world.

“I really got to combine all of my love for the dream world into this album,” Zingara said, “And it’s really cool because I genuinely got to bring my dream world from my childhood to life. Even through my visuals and my shows, we got to recreate these places like jungles and beaches that I have only been able to see and visit in my head.”

Each song on this album tell a story of an Zingara’s experiences, whether in the dream or physical world.

One of the most unique examples is the story behind the track, “The Stars are Calling Me ft. Jessica Chertock.” This song is a tribute to her late grandfather and incorporates the sound of a train, which is a symbol that connects her to both her grandfather and a dear friend who also passed away.

After her grandfather’s passing, Zingara’s aunt, who is a medium, gave her a reading and told her that her grandfather’s energy now resides in the last star of the Big Dipper.

Initially skeptical, Zingara found it hard to believe.

However, one evening while stargazing with a friend, she spotted the last star of the Big Dipper. She turned to her friend and said, “I think my grandpa’s energy lives in that star right there.” At that exact moment, a shooting star danced across the sky, and her beliefs were solidified.

“This song is about looking up to the stars and knowing that there are so many different belief systems and constellations, and that our loved ones are living in these stars that we can make a wish upon. Bringing that experience to life with this track was truly so special for me.”

The rest of the album consists of five solo tracks, along with many notable collaborations including tracks with HEYZ, Ruby Chase, Austeria, Ujuu, and Elephant Heart.

For Zingara, it is so important to be able to have fun and create with her friends. Most of these tracks started out as just a couple of friends having fun together, which in turn, ended up in beautiful songs that truly came from the heart.

To take this journey up a notch, Zingara played her first Mission Ballroom headline show in June as a “The Code of Dreamz” album release party, which was a massive success.

The evening consisted of a massive bill with artists such as, Black Carl!, Lumasi and Osyris. Not only was she able to book support that she felt was deserving of the slots, she was also able to book performers and have people who she holds dear to her heart dance on stage alongside her.

“I am so lucky that I bring a good crowd with me because every show I play, I get the feeling that the energy was unmatched, and it was just so healing and fun for me. I truly had one of the best times of my life on that stage.”

The level of production and dedication that was put into the Mission Ballroom show was just the beginning for the Zingara team.

In the future, she plans to have even more performers, more lights, more lasers, more visuals, pretty much anything she can to accurately depict the ideas that she has in her mind. And for her, the best part is being able to do it all with the ones she loves.

As someone with such a unique mind and soul, Zingara makes it her mission to get her message across to all of the beautiful beings that listen to her music. When asked what one piece of advice she would give to someone right now, she said,

“I want to remind people of the magic in the universe. It totally exists and has always guided me, and if you can pick something up and learn something from me, it is that I have always just trusted the universe and believed in magic. Whatever you believe, I know that something has guided me, because without it, I would not be where I am today. So I truly hope that I can help bring that kind of magic back into people’s lives.”
