Musicians Providing Platforms for the Rights of Those with Uteruses

Roe v. Wade protected the constitutional rights of access to abortion in America from January 22, 1973, until June 24, 2022, when the supreme court overturned the ruling, reversing the constitutional right and jeopardizing women’s health and people with uteruses. Several artists in the music industry stood up against the Supreme Court by donating, setting up fundraisers, or speaking out against this decision.

MP3 MAG compiled a list of artists in various genres dedicated to protecting abortion rights. Read below for the ongoing list.

Space Wizard 

The Maze Guardian artist pledged to send fans unreleased songs in exchange for donations of five or more dollars to Planned Parenthood. Just send a receipt of your donation to donate.spacewizard@gmail.com to receive five unreleased tracks.

Lizzo 

The acclaimed, Grammy-winning R&B and rap artist pledged to donate $500,000 from her “Special Tour” to Planned Parenthood. Live Nation also pledged to match Lizzo’s donation equaling a $1 million donation to support safe abortion access and abortion rights. 

The “Special Tour” kicks off on September 23 in Sunrise, Florida. To donate to the cause, click here

Ashnikko

The Demidevil artist, who advocates for women’s rights and the destruction of the patriarchy, reposted a link to the original Planned Parenthood Fundraiser created by Jodie Sweetin. The initial goal was $1,000. However, the public has raised over $10,000 so far.

Megan Thee Stallion

The “Plan B” singer is pledging support for freedom of what to do with your “Body-ody-ody-ody.” Megan Thee Stallion created a T-shirt franchise entitled “Ladies Love Yourself,” and 100% of the proceeds go to Planned Parenthood in solidarity with the #bansoffourbodies campaign.

VNSSA

The In The Dark artist formed a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood with an original goal of $1,000. Now, the fundraiser almost has $4,600 to its name. VNSSA also shared a spreadsheet with resources and links to different funds and programs to assist with information and access to abortion.

Soccer Mommy

When recording her latest album Color Theory, Sophie Allison used everything from floppy disk samples, to drum machines, to bubble sound effects to create the sound she wanted.

The lead singer of the Sometimes, Forever group noted they posted a link for Planned Parenthood donations to help fund the fight.

Dove Cameron 

​The “Boyfriend” singer reshared the fundraiser poet Amanda Gorman started for Planned Parenthood. Donations sit at $194,260 with an end goal of $250,000. She also posted a New Yorker article by Jia Tolentino titled “We’re Not Going Back to the Time Before Roe. We’re Going Somewhere Worse.”

Tacocat

Seattle-based band Tacocat sings about women’s health including the song, “Plan A, Plan B.” Emily Nokes, the lead singer, is the creative director of Shout Your Abortion, an activist group designed to promote safe access and resources while normalizing the discussion of abortion.

Paramore/ Hayley Williams 

The lead singer of the alt-rock band took to Instagram on June 24 to share some thoughts about the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade and to post resources close to Nashville and national funds, including ACLU, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Abortion Access Nashville, and Planned Parenthood.
