Rising Electro Funk Act Phyphr Delivers Soulful New Single, “Live It” [Listen]

Last Friday, February 12, Electro-Funk prodigy Phyphr unveiled his latest boundary-pushing project, “Live It.” The 3+ minute single showcases the producer/instrumentalists’ musicality and potential to transcend the genres of Electronic Funk, Soul, and Glitch Hop.

Phyphr (real name Nick Locke) is turning heads with his vibrant twist on electronic funk, soul and blues. Combining live guitar with electronic elements, funky grooves and catchy hooks, Phyphr delivers a live performance you won’t forget. The rising electro soul artist has opened up for national acts like SoDown, Marvel Years, Jason Leech, Shooka, Cofresi and Recycled Funk. He recently performed at ReVibe Retreat, as well as a New Year’s Eve Livestream by River Beats, whose fans nominated the producer for Breakout Artist of the Year for 2020. Looking ahead, Phyphr looks to build off this momentum with bigger live performances, collaborations, and more Funk.

“The year 2020 presented unique challenges and much uncertainty about the future of the music industry,” said Phyphr. “I decided I wouldn’t let the pandemic stop my dream from becoming reality. Although I’ve been unable to perform live during the pandemic, I’ve been able to find creative ways to grow my brand and fanbase responsibly. Live-streaming, performance videos, strategic collaborations, CDC compliance and a grassroots community fueled my continued growth.”

“Live It” opens with Phyphr’s patented guitar licks, accented by snappy drums and groovy horns. The Glitch Hop flair kicks off :25 in, where funk vocals begin echoing the hook, “Live it up before you die!” While the track is rooted in live music samples, the electronic elements slowly build as the single progresses towards its first drop. At :55 (“Ain’t nobody stopping me”), listeners are dazzled with their first serving of Glitch Hop, which warps the live samples into groovy electronic alagmations. For the rest of the duration, Phyphr dazzles by offering fans a music experience that feels full and serene.
